Include a sign-up form on your website

If a user in on your website, it’s likely they’re interested in what you have to offer. Use that interest to encourage them to sign up for your mailing list to be the first in the know of special offers in the future.

Users don’t like to give away their personal information, so at this stage, don’t ask too much of them. Just ask for their name, email address and consent to be added to your mailer. You can capture more information about them later with gated content. For now, just sign them up.

Offer an incentive

People aren’t just going to give up their personal details for no reason, so you’ve got to give them one! Offer a discount for joining, 10% off or free shipping on their next order, or provide them with a piece of valuable content in return for them signing up to your business mailing list.

Create great content

If your email content isn’t interesting, then your email subscribers have no reason to stay. Focus on creating engaging, appealing content for your mailers that will encourage users to click through to your website once more. Entice them with email only offers, interesting blog pieces and updates about what you’ve been getting up to.

Gate your best content

If you’ve got content you know your users benefit from, make it gated. As your users to give you their email address in exchange for the information in your content. Write e-books, create PDFs, infographics and videos that offer something really useful to your users so they’ll be happy to share their personal details with you.

Include a share button

If your users are loving your email content, they’ll be more than happy to share it with their friends and family. Give them just a little nudge with a ‘email a friend’ button in your message that allows them to quickly and easily pass on your content. That trusted recommendation is invaluable for growing your business mailing list.

Host a webinar

Sharing your knowledge online is a great way to develop trust with your users, and hosting a webinar with an email sign up captures their details. With people going throughout the pandemic, webinars are becoming more popular, so it’s the perfect time to start!

Create a quiz

People love doing quizzes online! Create fun, interesting quizzes for your users to enjoy, but ask for their email addresses to access their results. If you’ve created an engaging enough quiz, users will be more than happy to submit their details.

Use CTAs in your copy

In your website and blog copy, make sure to include CTAs (calls to action) to encourage your users to sign up to your mailing list. That way, they’ll get your great content sent straight to them, without the need for them to manually check your site for new information.

Remove those who don’t open

If you’ve got a mailing list full of people who don’t open your messages, there’s no sense in continuing to email them. Try everything you can, including targeted offers and interesting content to get them to re-engage, before sending them a final email.

Offer them the chance to resubscribe in one last message, and if they don’t click through, remove them from your mailing list. Having lots of people on your list who aren’t engaging just weighs you down.
